Critical Reflection

My time in the effective communication module with Professor Blackstone has been an exceptional learning experience. During his lessons, I was encouraged to participate in class activities like short writing assignments and presenting our ideas to the class. This provided me with a great platform to express myself through my words. As an open-minded and easy-going teacher, Professor Blackstone played a major part in making my time in this module a fulfilling one. With his valuable feedback and clear advice, I was able to produce some of my best works to date. One such work was a write-up for a summary and analysis. As it was my first time writing an analysis, I was not confident in my work. However, with clear directions from Professor Blackstone, I was able to complete the task well. In these 13 weeks, I have learned how to build an effective flow in my writing as well as how to present my ideas adequately. These skills would be vital in helping me to achieve future goals such as producing a good resume or having effective communication with my colleagues. With all that being said, I am dearly grateful for all the guidance from Professor Blackstone and I will be elated if I was given another opportunity to work with him.

During the module, we were task to do a group project that requires us to find a product that can be improved through modification. Accompanied by a 2000-word report and a group presentation on this topic. My group decided to improve a product called the Seabin by implementing a hydro turbine as its main source of power. As the appointed team leader, my role was to lead the team to finish the task on time. My group decided to split the work evenly by assigning individual tasks based on each of our strengths. Once we are done with the task, we would discuss if we are on the right track. I felt that this was an efficient way to use our time while providing us room to make essential changes to the report. I believe that this project gave me a great opportunity to lead a team as well as to share my views with my peers. Overall, this experience made me a better team player and improved my communication in a group setting.

In conclusion, with the valuable guidance from Professor Blackstone, I was able to improve my writing skills and became an eloquent speaker.

  1. Thank you very much, Jarl, for this detailed and wel focused critical reflection.

You provide specific illustrations as you review your reaction to the work you've done during the term. I'm impressed by the learning that you mention in terms of not just writing and presenting but also how you and your team managed the project. The proof of that was the excellent job you three did in the final project, and in particular, the final oral presentation.

I also appreciate the enthusiasm you have expressed in this reflection and in the class, where you showed consistent willingness to express yourself with a clear positive attitude toward learning.
My only remaining question is how you think any of what you learned might apply to your future work.

Be that as it may, best wishes as you continue your learning journey!

    Brad
